Goa powerlifting team has returned an impressive haul of 22 medals, including 10 gold, at the 29th National Powerlifting Benchpress/Deadlift Championship 2023 in Chhattisgarh.
The Goan contingent also won nine silver medals and three bronze medals, the Goa Powerlifting and Sports Association (GPSA) said in a press release. Lakshada Shirodkar was named the Strongest Teen Girl in Benchpress/Deadlift and won the gold in benchpress/deadlift, while Agnes Fernandes was named Strongest Junior Girl in Deadlift with a gold medal in deadlift and a silver in benchpress.
Maynard Furtado earned the title of Strongest Junior Boy Deadlift with a gold in deadlift, Joviette Emelia Moniz won a gold in deadlift and a silver in benchpress, Alton Almeida won a gold in benchpress and a silver in deadlift.
Aryan Dattaram Satardekar won a gold in deadlift and a bronze in benchpress, Suyog Madkaikar won a gold in benchpress and a gold in deadlift, while Shailesh Bagli claimed a gold medal in deadlift and a silver in benchpress.
Other winners were: Kenrich Fernandes (silver in deadlift and bronze in benchpress), Bhavesh Naik (silver in benchpress and silver in deadlift), Shreeyash Shirsat (silver in benchpress), Tousif Kalatgee (bronze in deadlift).
"It was a great and successful performance and we won the highest number of medals by a Goan powerlifting team," stated GPSA president Chirag Datta Naik.
