Addressing young Fomento scholars at a felicitation programme held at Fomento Amphitheatre, Gomant Vidya Niketan, Timblo said the powers are at a loss to understand while there is a growth in the economy, there is also negative growth in employment. “Today, jobs can be done by less number of persons. Very soon, you may not need so many teachers to teach the students. All that you may need is a good software. In the future, we may require less number of people to
do more number of things,” he said.
Saying that Fomento will continue to focus on the young scholars, he said Fomento is presently focusing on the one per cent talent of Goa. “We are not in the memorising scholarships, but we look forward at the holistic development of human beings so that they serve the society,” Timblo said, while making a plea to the scholars to have Goa and India at their heart.
Saying that there’s something amiss in the economy, Timblo said, “I don’t blame anybody. The whole thing has been mismanaged for decades together. The politicians promise the people, but nothing happens.”
The Fomento Chairman said that society is generating huge talent, adding “some of them are highly talented. They are the best and compete at international levels”.
Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Chief Co-ordinator Fomento Scholars Programme Uday Ballikar said that Fomento scholars is an initiative aimed at providing deserving students from Goa with an opportunity to pursue high quality engineering education in the USA. He said the selected students are offered an aid package and secured admission at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology for joining the undergraduate engineering.
Students of Std VII, who were selected last year for performing well in the competitive exams were felicitated at the hands of Fomento Chairman Audhut Timblo.
