Stating that inaction by police has enabled the main accused to seek anticipatory bail in connection with the assault on a doctor at a Porvorim hospital, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said it was unfortunate when doctors from across the State have to march to the police station to demand action in the matter.
Khaunte was addressing media persons at the Porvorim Police Station after meeting Superintendent of Police Shobit Saxena earlier in the day before Minesh Narvekar surrendered to the police.
“The three accused were arrested by Porvorim Police only after doctors affiliated to the Indian Medical Association marched to the police station and this indicates that the police were fully aware of the whereabouts of those involved in the assault on Dr Amol Tilve,” said Khaunte.
“Though a complaint has been registered by Dr Tilve, Porvorim police has failed to act against the accused Minesh Narvekar even after 72 hours. Residents of Porvorim demand the immediate arrest of the prime accused, Minesh Narvekar.”
“The main accused is still absconding and he has filed for anticipatory bail. We are monitoring what reply police files in this connection before the court.
“Inaction by the police indicates that they have given sufficient time for the main accused, Minesh Narvekar, to apply for anticipatory bail. The common man does not get justice unless people come on the streets,” he added.
The Porvorim MLA said doctors have been doing wonderful job amid the Covid pandemic but their safety has been at the risk due to such incidents.
