In an initiative aimed at bringing fallow agricultural fields under paddy cultivation, the Varca Comunidade on Sunday held an awareness meeting on plans to revive agriculture in the coastal village.
Zonal Agriculture Officer Margao Sheriff Furtado, Agnelo Furtado, former Deputy Agriculture Director Amancio Fernandes and others guided participants on how to take agriculture forward in the village.
Agnelo Furtado offered guidance and assistance to the Varca Comunidade to revive agriculture in Varca. He explained how farmers in Chinchinim have revived lakhs of square metres of fallow fields over the last couple of years through mechanisation and community farming.
“We are ready to offer our assistance and help to the Varca Comunidade to revive the fallow fields. We have done so in Navelim, Sarzora and other places, and we have offered our help to the Varca Comunidade as well,” he said.
Varca Comunidade president Solan Furtado said the awareness meet was organised primarily to chalk out an action plan to revive agriculture in the village. He said the Comunidade would organise field trips for farmers to the Ela farm and other fields to study the model and implement similar measures in the village.
