As he gets set to tackle the ills plaguing the State, Parrikar himself will realise that almost all the promises he handed out to Madgavkars and Shastikars exactly five years ago, when he took over the reigns of office post 2012 Assembly election, remains unfulfilled till date. His exit from the State to take charge of the country’s defence, did not change the ground reality for the better, with a host of projects mooted by the former Chief Minister confined only to the paper. The Goan takes a look at the projects and issues Parrikar vowed to address in 2012, but are still awaiting an answer.
Sonsodo tangle
After assuming office in 2012, Parrikar had promised to resolve the Sonsodo tangle. As the head of the High Powered Coordination Committee, Parrikar had promised to make available funds to resolve the waste issue. He even paid a secret visit to Sonsodo, but a solution is still not forthcoming till date.
District hospital
The very same year, when Parrikar held a high level meeting at the PWD rest house, Monte Hill, he disclosed plans to convert a portion of the district hospital under construction to house the nursing school and complete the prestigious project within a time-bound manner. Five years down the line, the district hospital project is stranded midway on account of failed deadlines and for want of funds.
