In a startling incident early this morning, an unidentified assailant opened fire on one Sachin Kurtiker, 33, as he was riding his bike near Bethora junction.
The Usgao local sustained injuries to his back soon after which he was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment. The incident occurred around 6:15 am.
The motive behind the attack, the firearm used and the number of attackers are yet to be determined.
South Goa Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant and Ponda police are at the crime scene for investigation.
The police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to zero in on the perpetrator/s.
"The victim's statement will be recorded if the doctors declare him fit for this. We have posted policemen around his ward and hospital. Until then we are looking at clues to track down the accused," an officer told The Goan.
