Union Minister of State for Fisheries Dr L Murugan on Monday visited the Mormugao Zonal Base of Fishery Survey of India (FSI) to review various projects and went sailing for a demonstration of surveying and fishing operations.
FSI Director General Dr R Jayabhaskaran, Dr S Ramachandran (FSI Zonal Director) and other officials were present on the occasion
Dr L Murugan visited the two survey vessels at the Mormugao Zonal Base facility, Motor Fishing Vessel (MFV) Sagarika and MFV Yellowfin. On the latter, the Minister sailed for a demonstration of surveying and fishing operations.
Director General Dr R Jayabhaskaran briefed the union minister about the various activities of FSI. He explained how the organisation undertakes the task of surveying and assessing marine fisheries resources in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone along the coasts of Goa, Karnataka and Lakshadweep islands.
He also briefed the union minister about some of the past achievements such as imparting training in various fishing techniques to fishery entrepreneurs, identification of fishing grounds and disseminating such information to the fishing industry.
