The Goa Port and Dock Employees Union (GPADEU) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik regarding hardships faced by pensioners and employees of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) due to non-payment of arrears on account of wage revision with effect from January 1, 2017.
Both Tendulkar and Naik assured to look into the matter and resolve the issue at the earliest.
When contacted, GPADEU President Laxmikant Gaude said the wage settlement of port and dock workers had been signed on August 30, 2018, revising the wage structure w.e.f January 1, 2017.
"All major ports in India, except for the MPT, have made payment of wage settlement arrears to their workers. Our Union has proposed several alternatives to the port management to settle the pending dues and arrears of employees and pensioners, including terminal benefits to retired employees, but nothing has been done as yet," said Gaude.
Another member of GPADEU, Uday Fadte said the union has requested both Tendulkar and Naik to impress upon the MPT management to clear the pending dues of arrears of employees and pensioners, by exercising on any of the alternatives provided by the union to MPT.
"We have faith that the issue will soon be cleared, to benefit a large number of employees and pensioners of MPT," said Fadte.
