Drishti lifesavers helped find a 5-year-old girl who went missing at Calangute beach and also rescued two tourists in separate incidents along the Sinquerim-Baga coast on Thursday.
In the first incident, a 51-year old Indian male tourist went for a swim at Baga beach at about 2.10 pm.
He ventured deeper into the waters where he experienced an inward pull. On realising he was unable to swim, he gestured to the lifeguard for help. Drishti lifesaver Sudeep Arondekar rushed to his aid with a rescue tube. The victim was secured to the tube and brought back to safety.
In the second incident, a Goan family of three from Karaswada had gone to Calangute beach and while the father went for a swim, the mother and their five-year old daughter were on the shore.
At about 3.05 pm, the mother realised her child was not around her and began panicking, while shouting out for help.
They approached the lifesaver’s tower for help. Drishti lifesaver Siddhesh Bhosle immediately carried out a search operation with the aid of the lifesaver’s jeep, while announcing about the missing girl.
The girl was found after a long search, playing on the shore. She was taken from the spot and reunited with her family.
In the third incident, a tourist was noticed entering the sea at Sinquerim beach at about 6.25 pm. As it was past sunset, the lifesavers had warned the public to stay out of the waters.
Despite this, the man went for a swim and began struggling to swim in the rough waves.
One of the waiters at a shack noticed the victim struggling to swim and immediately alerted the lifesavers.
Drishti lifesaver Satish Gawas rushed towards the victim and secured him on the rescue board, bringing the victim back ashore. The victim’s airways were cleared and he was released with safety precautions and advised to visit a doctor for further recovery.
