Unity among villagers key for overall development: Governor

Stating that unity among villagers is the strength of any village, Governor Mridula Sinha said this is the key of overall development of any village.  

Sinha was speaking at the programme “Gaon Aur Hum” organised under ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ by the Directorate of Panchayats in association with South Goa District Collectorate, Village Panchayat Paroda and Goa University at Paroda on Wednesday.   

Speaking further, Sinha said Goa University is one of the best institutions which teaches students of their social responsibilities while acquiring knowledge. “There are many Government schemes and facilities but only when Government officials reach to every village and doorstep of the people then only 100% people will be benefited. Officials need to sit across 

the table with villagers and only then will they understand the needs, problems and hardships of the people,” Sinha said.   

Emphasising the importance of joint families, Sinha stressed that the children brought up in a joint family where three generations are living together will have an understanding of family values and love for one another.   

She stated that Self Help Groups (SHGs) must be trained to understand the demands of people from other parts of Goa and beyond, so that they are ready to meet their demands so that they can expand their business and be successful entrepreneur.  

The governor instructed senior government officials to ensure that a dedicated market is set up where only the SHGs can sell their products on a daily basis.  

South District Collector Dr Tariq Thomas said Paroda village will receive special focus from the government.   

“UBA is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. Coordination among departments is essential so that the people can take advantage of government schemes,” he said.  

Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias expressed satisfaction that a village in his constituency was chosen for the UBA although he is in the opposition and requested the Governor to extend her helping hand to fulfil the construction of long-pending panchayat building in the village.  

Director of Panchayats Rajan Satarkar explained about the Gram Panchayat Development Plan and the need for library, facilities for sports, performing arts & dance and employment of youth which will be taken under GPDP which has a theme, “Niyojit amchem Goem, Nitol amchem Goem”  

Convener of Paroda Panchayat Biodiversity Committee Akshetra Fernandes provided a presentation of Paroda village and said preserving the serenity of the village can only by possible with the cooperation of villagers.  

Secretary (Governor) Rupesh Kumar Thakur, Additional Director Florina Colaco, OSD to Governor Anshuman Abhishek, Paroda Sarpanch Inacio Tereza, Registrar of Goa University Y V Reddy, ZP Member Minaxi Gaonkar were among those present on the occasion.
