The much-anticipated Oktoberfest celebration, which was scheduled to take place at the Campal grounds in Panaji, has been postponed due to persistent inclement weather.
Organisers announced the decision, citing safety concerns and logistical challenges posed by the ongoing heavy rains that have lashed the region over the past two weeks.
Originally slated to kick off this weekend, the event, which attempts to mimic the original fest in Germany, was expected to draw hundreds of locals and tourists alike, eager to indulge in Bavarian-themed festivities, live music, traditional German fare, and craft beer offerings from local and international breweries.
The Campal grounds, known for hosting large-scale cultural events, were being prepared for the vibrant festival space dotted with beer tents, food stalls, and performance stages.
However, the unexpected rains forced the organisers to announce the postponement.
“The weather has made it impossible to proceed safely. The grounds are waterlogged, and forecasts predict more rain. We’re disappointed, but public safety has forced the decision,” a representative of the organisers said.
Vendors and performers from Goa and beyond expressed their support for the decision, though many acknowledged the financial and logistical setbacks.
Tourism officials also backed the move to postpone the event, emphasising the importance of maintaining the State’s reputation for well-managed events.
Organisers, meanwhile, are working to reschedule Oktoberfest for a later date, likely in mid-November, once weather conditions improve.
Ticket holders will be notified via email and social media updates, and all pre-booked passes will remain valid for the rescheduled event.
Nonetheless, the spirit of Oktoberfest remains undampened.
“We will be back soon, and when we do, it’ll be bigger, better, and hopefully a lot sunnier,” the organisers’ representative said.
Ironically, Oktoberfest 2025 in Munich also faced major disruptions due to overcrowding, air travel delays, and a major security alert near the festival grounds.
