MARGAO
Who will shoulder the responsibility for the Rs 40 lakh Sonsodo approach road construction file that has gone missing from the civic body and has still not been traced till date? The Margao Municipal file management system shows that the file was last tracked at the office of the Chief Officer. Since then, the file seemed to have gone missing. The outgoing municipal engineer Diniz D’Mello had claimed the tender file was marked to the office of the Chief Officer for issuance of work order to the shortlisted contractor.
Since then, however, the whereabouts of the file remains unknown.
Chief Officer says that the file was marked to him, but he hastened to add that the file was later sent to the chamber of Chairperson Lyndon Pereira.
“The file is not with me. It is true that the file management system shows that the file was sent to my cabin, but, after I had seen the file, it was sent to the Chairperson, but has not come back for issuance of the work order," he added.
Incidentally, Chairperson Lyndon Pereira had asserted at the council meeting that no files are being marked to him by the administration.
With the file still untraceable, rumours are doing the rounds whether the file has gone missing since a contractor could not bag the Rs 40 lakh contract.
Questions raised over contractors moving with files
MARGAO: If the Margao Municipal Council has a file management system, how come unscrupulous contractors are seen personally carrying official files from one section to another in violation of the norms? More often than not, a couple of contractors are often seen in the corridors of the municipal building, throwing questions over the presence of these contractors around the technical section.
