The use of electric vehicles by Goan people is increasing. In 2019, only 41 electric vehicles were registered in the state while as of now there are 1,315 electric vehicles registered in the state.
Out of 10,36,568 vehicles registered in the state, a total 1,315 vehicles are electric vehicles, says a reply filed by the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has also given some additional information in the Lok Sabha to another written question.
From 2018 onwards the government has started promotion of electric vehicles. Government has given incentive for production of such vehicles.
Initially very few people were purchasing electric vehicles however now more people have opted for electric vehicles.
In 2019 only 41 electric vehicles were purchased in the state while in that year around 74,310 vehicles running on petroleum fuels were sold.
In 2020 total 79 electric vehicles were sold in Goa even though for some time due to the pandemic the sale and purchase of vehicles was affected. In this year 42,341 vehicles working of fossil fuel were purchased in the state.
Meanwhile the number of charging stations in Goa has increased to 26 with one charging facility in the government premises. There are 8 active charging stations at petrol pumps in Goa.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries formulated a Scheme Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme in 2015 to promote adoption of electric/ hybrid vehicles (xEVs) in the country. Also the demand incentive for electric two wheelers has been increased to Rs 15,000/KWh from Rs 10,000/KWh with an increase in cap from 20% to 40% of the cost of vehicle from June 11, 2021, thus enabling the cost of electric two wheelers at par with that of ICE two wheeler vehicles.
To promote electric vehicles in the state in addition to central incentives, Goa government has an electric mobility policy to promote electric vehicles.
