Utkarsh panel wins Goa Dairy polls; Bachao panel decimated, gets 1 seat

The counting was taken up at Sahakar Bhavan at Curti-Ponda on Monday morning.
The elected members of Sahakari’s panel are Baburao Desai Fotto, Gurudas Parab, Vithoba Desai, Rajesh Phaldesai, Ajay Dessai, Dhananjay Desai, Babu Komarpant, Vijaykumar Patil, Naresh Malik and Rajendra Sawal, while Aselmo Furtado, lone member of Goa Dairy Bachao panel, won
the election.
The Registrar of Cooperative Societies conducted the election process on Sunday following directions from the Cooperative Tribunal.
It may be recalled that 37 members had filed nominations for the elections held in January. However, during scrutiny the returning officer rejected 25 nomination papers of the opposition groups, due to which 12 members were elected unopposed including Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari.
Later, 12 of the 25 members, whose nomination papers were rejected, challenged the order and also the election process of the returning officer in the High Court.
Speaking to media persons, Sahakari said their good administration and connect with the farmers helped them to win the battle. “People had faith in us that we can deliver better. We will keep this faith intact by serving in the best interest of Goa Dairy, farmers and obviously our customers,” Sahakari assured.
Madhav Sahakari got the highest votes of 117, followed by Baburao Desai Fotto (108), Gurudas Parab (105) and Vithoba Desai (100).
Sources informed that the election of chairman should be held within 10 days of counting. As Madhav Sahakari is the senior most and has much experience in handling the dairy affairs, he would be the first choice of all for the top post.
