Indian nationals and Nepalis from North Goa who do not possess the prescribed identity card will be vaccinated on July 3 at the Assagao Panchayat and Don Bosco, Panaji. These will include any person having Indian nationality, including those who are homeless, living on the streets or are roadside beggars.
“The North Goa collectorate had prepared a list of such persons, and it includes 200 persons to be vaccinated at Don Bosco and another 200 at Assagao Panchayat. If more persons come who are not on the list, we have made arrangements to vaccinate them too,” stated Dr Rajendra Borkar, State immunisation officer to The Goan. There is no booking on any app, and the enlisted person can come directly to these centres and take the jab, he said.
Dr Borkar further added that anyone who has not had a dose of the vaccine, is an Indian national and does not possess any identity card, can also come to these two centres and take the jab. “A similar list of Indian nationals without prescribed identity cards, has been prepared by the South Goa collectorate too. However, a day and the venue are not fixed yet for the vaccination,” he disclosed.
Dr Borkar also stated that as and when such lists are prepared by the North and South Goa collectorates, vaccinations will be arranged for such persons in future too. The vaccination is free for all, in the government centres. Unless a person insists on taking it in a private hospital, he does not have to pay for it.
The decision of vaccinating those who did not have any photo identity approved by the government and those who did not have any phone number, was taken after the repeated requests came from various sections of the society to vaccinate these people. “Now we have received a directive from the ministry of health, government of India, and so we have decided to vaccinate them,” said Dr Borkar.
