Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said those farmers affected due to Cyclone Tauktae will get compensation within one month.
He was addressing farmers in Ugvem-Pernem in the presence of Deputy CM Manohar Ajgaonkar, North Collector and the agriculture director.
Sawant inspected the fields in Ugvem which were filled with stones and mud from the Mopa airport site.
The CM said those who were affected due to the cyclone will get compensation within one month. He directed the collector to prepare a report on losses to the crops.
“Those who have lost trees will also be provided with free saplings along with the compensation,” said Sawant.
Mopa Deputy Sarpanch Subodh Mahale complained to the chief minister that fake complaints were registered against locals who spoke against the company involved in the airport construction, adding that some were even fired from the company.
Extending his support to Ugvem locals, Deputy CM Ajgaonkar said assessment of losses had begun from the very second day after the cyclone.
“The contractor compensated farmers with Rs 17 lakh and other financial aid will be given by the government soon,” assured Ajgaonkar.
Later, the CM also visited the Mopa airport site to inspect the waterlogging
