Many of the voters from Valpoi along with a Hindu organisation have urged the authorities concerned to postpone the Valpoi by-poll as it will affect the Chaturthi celebration.
The voters have submitted a memorandum to the Valpoi Returning Officer Praveen H Parab putting forward their demand.
Speaking to reporters, Vishwaraj Sawant claimed that the Election Commission has scheduled the by-poll on a date after which Chaturthi will be celebrated just three days later.
"Many voters residing in Valpoi constituency will go to their native places outside the constituency and it will affect the election. Some local businessmen will also be affected badly," Sawant added.
A voter, Gaurish Gawas, said the Election Commission should have taken note
of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival before declaring the by-election.
Valpoi Returning Officer Parab said the memorandum submitted by the voters will be sent to higher authorities.
