BICHOLIM
Several roads were flooded and the market was affected as heavy rains lashed Bicholim taluka on Monday.
Heavy showers for about an hour led to water levels rising sharply in the Valvanti and Bicholim rivers, with many locals fearing it to be a cloud-burst.
Life was disrupted as motorists struggled and found it difficult to travel on several inundated roads, while traffic was affected as the road in front of the BJP office was flooded in Sanquelim. Ganesh Chaturthi shopping was also affected in the market.
As rains continue in many parts of the taluka, the disaster management team was on alert and was monitoring the situation.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and Mayem MLA Premedra Shet were monitoring the developments and the departments concerned were instructed to take appropriate action.
