Varca casino raided; chips worth Rs 6.90 lakh seized; 15 held

MARGAO: In a joint operation, the Colva and Margao police raided an illegal casino at a Varca-based hotel on Saturday and seized chips with value of Rs 6.90 lakh and gaming material.

Around 15 persons have been arrested in the raid. The arrested persons hail from Gujarat and Goa, the police added.

South Goa police chief, SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, informed that police teams comprising of Colva and Margao police stations conducted a raid on Saturday at the hotel in Varca and caught 15 persons red-handed involved in gambling activities.

He said the activities were being conducted in closed premises with the help of chips of different colours valued around Rs 6.90 lakh.

He said the Colva police has registered the case against 15 persons arrested in the case.

The raiding teams comprising of Colva PI Tukaram Chawan, Margao PI Jitendra Naik, PSI Ajit Velip, PSI Rahul Naik, ASI Dilkhush Velip and police constables, Vikas Kaushik, Keshav, Amar Gaonkar, Hemant Bhandari, Sushant, Gorakhnath, Kalpesh Kholkar, Orland, Vishal Prabhu, Saish Mandrekar, Swapnesh Velip, Vijendra Gaonkar,  Suhas Salkar, Wasim Shaikh,  Subhani Shaikh and Harshad Gaude.
