A Vasco-based businessman, who had earlier filed a complaint against then IGP Sunil Garg, complained he was assaulted and threatened by two unknown men in Verna on Wednesday evening.
Munnalal Halwai has suspected this incident may be linked to either the IGP case or another case of cheating, in which he has filed a
complaint.
Stating that he would not withdraw any case, Halwai told reporters that he has filed a complaint against two unknown persons at Verna police station. “I was travelling in my car from Verna and stopped my car near the Blueberry Hall, when two persons on a scooter began abusing me with filthy words asking me to withdraw my case and even threatened to kill me and my family if I did not withdraw my case immediately.”
“The rider then hit me on my head with the danda (stick) and I fell down. They then fled from the site and I went to a doctor for a medical checkup,” he said.
It may be recalled that Halwai had accused IGP Garg of demanding and accepting Rs 5.5 lakh in a bribe to register a First Information Report in a cheating case. Halwai has approached the Supreme Court in the matter.
Halwai had also complained to the Vasco police on January 8 claiming to have been attacked and threatened by two unknown people near the Naval Public School.
