Tata Sports and Vijaya Bank won their respective matches in Goa Cricket Association’s Goa Corporate League at Academy ground, Porvorim, on Wednesday.
Tata Sports beat RBI by seven wickets in the first match to enter the semi-finals from Group B. The result also ensured Goa Lions’ passage into the last-four stage as both teams won two games each.
Batting first on winning the toss, RBI scored 144/7 with Jyot Chaya being the top scorer with 82 runs off 64 balls. In reply, Tata Sports romped to 145/3 in 18 overs.
Sufiyan Shaikh was once again the man of the match as the Tata opener blasted his way to 39-ball 72 with the help of four sixers and eight boundaries.
In the next match, Vijaya Bank notched up their first victory in the league as they beat Air India by 12 runs. This was the second defeat for AI while the bankers stay in the hunt for semi-finals with the winning return. Electing to bat, Vijaya Bank scored 185/6 and then restricted a fighting Air India to 173/7. Vijaya’s Shishir Bhawane (69 not out) and C M Gautham (62) did the bulk of the scoring and the duo was adjudged joint-man of the match.
