The Vasco police registered an offence against the minor two-wheeler rider in connection with the fatal mishap and also arrested the owner for handing over the vehicle to the minor boy who did not have a valid driving licence.
Vasco PI Kapil Nayak informed reporters that the speeding bike involved in the fatal accident was being driven by a 16-year-old boy without a valid driving license.
"We have registered an offence under Sections 279,337,304 read with 34 IPC and sections 3,4,5 and 180,199 A sub section (2) of the MV Act. The minor boy rode the bike without a valid license in a rash and negligent manner and crashed against a pedestrian Mamata Shetye (59) who was crossing the road at New Vaddem.”
“We have not registered a case of accident but a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The accused minor was detained and has been sent to Apna Ghar.”
“The co-accused, Sanjay Naik (23) of Queeny Nagar, Velsao, who is the owner of the bike, has been arrested and lodged in a lock up because he allowed the minor to ride his motorcycle knowingly that the driver was minor and did not have valid driving licence from competent authorities," said PI Nayak.
Vasco PSI Ganesh Matondkar is carrying out further investigations.
