Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida has demanded additional medical staff at the Chicalim Sub Dostrict Hospital, which had been converted to a Covid hospital.
Almeida also demanded increased oxygen supply to the hospital in a bid to save lives affected by Covid.
Almeida put forth the demands during a review meeting with Mormugao Dy Collector Sachin Desai, Mamlatdar Dhiren Banaulikar and doctors and health officers.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Almeida said the Covid death figures in Vasco were alarming and he had convened a review meet to check for any issues faced by health officials in coping with the situation.
"There are two main issues, one is that there are no doctors in Chicalim SDH and secondly, there is less oxygen. Both these issues have been addressed. We have decided to ask for more physicians and will request the government to increase the supply of oxygen to the hospital," said Almeida.
Dy Collector Sachin Desai said the health officials had put forth issues of staff shortage.
“We will contact the health department and get the issue resolved. They also faced a shortage of drivers and we have assured to sort these issues at our level,” said Desai.
Health Officer and Medical Superintendent of Chicalim SDH Dr Anil Umraskar said a fresh proposal on the requirements of the hospital would be placed and added that authorities and MLA Carlos Almeida had assured of all support to the hospital.
