Vasco police crack down on roadside drinking; 16 arrested

VASCO
The Vasco police led by PI Kapil Nayak has begun a special drive to curb roadside nuisance and arrested 16 persons on day one of the drive on Thursday.

Nayak said the police had received a lot of complaints from people regarding some youths sitting and drinking by the roadsides.

"We carried out a special drive at Chicalim, Bogmalo and Dabolim area and arrested 16 people who were found drinking in public places and on roadsides. We have taken action against them under Section 34 (6) of the IP Act,” said PI Nayak.

“Many youth regularly sit and drink by the roadsides and we have warned them several times. These youth not only drink but dump the bottles on the roadsides and create nuisance and spoil the entire atmosphere of the area which is not right. As a last resort, we had to arrest them.

“I want to issue a strict warning to all these people that they must not sit and drink on the roadside because our drive will continue and stringent action will be initiated on these people,” the police officer said.

PI Nayak added that the police drive will be extended to other areas and surprise checks may be conducted.
