RailTel, a Mini Ratna Central Government PSU under Ministry of Railways, will implement Video Surveillance System (VSS) project (CCTV cameras network) under the Nirbhaya Fund at 756 railway stations across Indian Railways.
Vasco railway station will be among 17 railway stations under SWR and 756 railway stations across the nation to get the VSS with advanced technology under Phase 1. The project is expected to be completed by January 2023.
Belagavi, Mysuru, Vijaypura, Hubballi, Bengaluru Cantt and Gadag are among the other stations that will have the VSS.
“Seventeen stations across SWR have been selected for implementation of this system project by RailTel. The project aims at enhancing security and ensure safety of passengers at the railway station and entire premises,” Chief PRO Aneesh Hegde said.
This VSS system will be Internet Protocol based and will have a network of CCTV cameras networked on optical fibre cable and the video feed of the CCTV cameras will be displayed at local RPF posts & centralised CCTV control room at the divisional and zonal level.
The system comes with Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled Video Analytics Software and Facial Recognition Software which will help to detect known criminals triggering an alert when they enter station premises. A Network Management System (NMS) has been also been provided for monitoring of Cameras, Server, UPS and Switches which can be viewed from any web browser by authorized personnel.
Four types of Internet Protocol cameras will be installed to ensure maximum coverage of the Railway premises. Software based application like Video Analytic and Face Recognition, as per RDSO Version 6.0 will not only help in quick response to untoward/unexpected incidents & situations and eventualities but also aide faster decision making in providing solutions.
“We need to rapidly absorb new technology in Railways, be it for rolling stock, construction, safety, cyber security, or in situations where there is a human interface,” Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has said.
