VASCO
Vasco will soon get a new dedicated market for chicken and mutton, besides a huge market complex to accommodate fruit and vegetables vendors.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said he had recently met Urban Development Minister Vishwajeet Rane along with the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Deepesh Priolkar in the presence of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho to discuss various issues related to the municipality and health departments.
"The chicken market in Vasco is in a very bad state in a very remote area. We have asked the minister for a new building to serve as a dedicated market for chicken and mutton vendors,” said Salkar. “This new market will also help get all vendors selling chicken and mutton from different areas to one location.”
The MLA said Vasco also has the distinction of being the only city where people buy vegetables from roadsides.
“We have requested the minister to allow us to have a huge market complex like that in Panaji so that we can accommodate all vendors selling fruits, vegetables and other items under one roof in a systematic manner. The minister has asked me to move the proposal and assured me to sanction these projects immediately," said Salkar.
Salkar added that discussions were also held on the ambitious Swatantra Path beautification project.
"We will start work on this Swatantra Path beautification project by October at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore. We have already completed underground cabling works and the laying of new pipelines. Vasco will get a new and clean Swatantra Path because we will also plant new trees along the road as part of beautification,” said Salkar.
