Vasco teen drowns at Kakolem beach

CANACONA:

A picnic for a group from Vasco ended in tragedy when a 17-year-old boy drowned at the Kakolem beach in Khola-Canacona.

According to Canacona police, Sagar Lamani of Mangor Hill in Vasco along with a group of family members and friends had gone to the Kakolem beach for a picnic.

A few of them were swimming in the sea when suddenly Sagar began to struggle in the water.

Incidentally, some foreign tourists responding to an alarm raised and rushed to his aid, pulling him ashore.

A 108 ambulance then rushed Sagar to the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) where a doctor on duty declared him brought dead.

Police conducted the panchnama and later sent the body for an autopsy at the South Goa District Hospital at Margao, where it was ascertained that the cause of death was “asphyxia as a result of drowning”. The body was later handed over to the family for final rites.

A case under Section 194 BNSS 2023 has been registered and Canacona PSI Rajashekar Reddy carried out the investigation.
