The Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), Vedanta’s social impact arm, has signed an MoU with the Sankhali Municipal Council in Goa, launching an initiative to make Goa rabies-free.
Through its animal welfare project, The Animal Care Organization (TACO), AAF will set up an advanced animal care centre in Bicholim, dedicated to rabies eradication and animal welfare.
The centre, spread over two acres provided by the Sankhali Municipal Council, will offer Animal Birth Control (ABC) services and anti-rabies vaccinations for stray dogs and cats.
This phased project aims to curb Goa’s rising stray dog population, which has increased by over 70% according to recent census data, and reduce related public health risks.
The centre will feature dedicated areas for pre-operative and post-operative care and will later expand to include a veterinary hospital with OPD, operating theatres, and advanced diagnostics.
Additionally, TACO’s facility will host training for veterinarians, animal welfare advocates, NGOs, and local communities to foster awareness and proactive animal care.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, praised the collaboration, expressing hope for more such initiatives. Priya Agarwal Hebbar of Vedanta emphasised Vedanta’s dedication to animal health and community-led welfare.
This centre strengthens Vedanta’s CSR efforts in Goa, furthering its mission to positively impact local communities and animal welfare.
