The Margao municipality-owned Gandhi market is never without controversies. On Monday, it was found open on Monday till 11 am despite the fact the Collector has extended the curfew restrictions.
While the Margao police had on Sunday forced closure of a couple of beef stalls in the Gandhi market, the men-in-uniform were conspicuous by their absence at the vegetable market where the political Ajgaonkar brothers hold sway.
The District Collector has ordered the closure of all the markets owned by municipalities and panchayats. Based on the order, the Fatorda police had on Sunday erected barricades at the entry and exit points leading to the SGPDA vegetable and fish markets.
While Madgavkars who visited the Gandhi market could lay their hands on vegetables of their choice on Monday despite the curfew order, the episode has only raised questions why the Margao police were not seen around in the market till 11 am on Monday.
