Goa’s transport economy continued to expand in 2025, though at a gentler pace than the year before, with vehicle registrations rising even as revenue growth slowed.
The Ministry report reveals that the State registered 86,329 vehicles during the year, a 2.38 per cent increase over 2024. The growth was modest compared to the previous year, when 84,319 vehicles were registered and the expansion stood at a stronger 3.70 per cent.
With the addition of new vehicles, Goa’s overall vehicle population has climbed to 14,41,835, a figure now close to the State’s total population.
The monthly trend in 2025 followed a familiar pattern, beginning on a steady note, dipping through the middle of the year and then rising sharply during the festive season.
Registrations peaked in October at 11,375 vehicles, the highest monthly total of the year, coinciding with festivals and higher consumer spending.
August recorded sales of 8,147 vehicles, while January also posted relatively strong numbers at 8,084. In contrast, May and June were among the weakest months, with 4,926 and 5,276 registrations respectively.
In comparison, 2024 saw a more evenly spread increase across the year. October was again the strongest month, with 10,494 registrations, but the first half of the year recorded comparatively higher volumes than in 2025.
Revenue figures told a similar story of steady volumes but slowing momentum. Transport revenue in 2025 stood at Rs 446.75 crore, slightly above the Rs 440.68 crore collected in 2024. However, while revenue had risen sharply by 10.65 per cent in 2024, growth in 2025 was far more muted, pointing to a slowdown in value growth despite higher registration numbers.
October once again topped the revenue chart in 2025 with collections of Rs 47.89 crore, followed by January at Rs 43.22 crore and March at Rs 42.15 crore. June emerged as the leanest month, generating Rs 27.85 crore, reflecting the mid-year lull in vehicle registrations.
The ministry noted that new vehicle registrations continued to form the backbone of transport revenue, contributing Rs 3.35 crore “ the highest among other ancillary revenue streams.
However, not all indicators showed an upward trend. The report stated that number of permits issued during the year fell to 14,099, registering a decline of 1.59 per cent. The drop, officials stated, is also because Goa had stalled new registrations of rented vehicles.
