Officials have received 1,730 claims as of Thursday for inclusion of names in Goa's electoral rolls during the ongoing second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said.
A bulletin issued by the CEO, Goa said 1,730 claims for inclusion either via form 6 or form 6A have been received from eligible electors.
In addition, another 131 claims for deletion of names have been received via 'form 7', the CEO's bulletin said.
Following the SIR process which began on November 4 last year, the Election Commission of India has deleted 1,00,042 names from the electoral rolls found to be absent, deceased or permanently shifted to other States when it published the draft electoral rolls last month.
Additionally, another 1.82 lakh voters were marked as unmapped as their parents or kin could not be traced to the electoral rolls of 2002 when the last SIR exercise was conducted.
These unmapped voters are now being served notices and individual hearings either before the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) where they will have to prove their citizenship by furnishing any one of the 13 documents listed by the ECI.
This second phase of conducting hearings and accepting claims will carry on until January 15 after which the rolls will be finalised and published on February 20.
