Accusing the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of appeasing minorities and destroying Goan culture, rebel Rashtriya Swayamsevak leader Subhash Velingkar on Sunday urged the swayamsevaks to become Narasimhas to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Assembly polls 2017.
He was addressing over 2000 swayamsevaks at the maiden convention organised by ‘RSS Goa Pradesh’, the breakaway group which was recently formed after Velingkar was sacked by the RSS as the State Chief. It was held at Dr K B Hedgewar High School, Cujira, Bambolim.
“Those who are opposing our agitation are not the protectors of our mother tongue and culture, but they are the devours. It is time we become Narasimha and defeat them”, said Velingkar.
Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu is often visualised as having a human torso and lower body, with a lion face and claws. It is believed that Vishnu took this avatar to kill the demon king Hiranyakashipu. Velingkar pointed out that the agitation is not merely for protecting the mother tongue, but against injustice and partiality.
“Hindus and Christians in Goa had common ancestors. The fight is not about Christians and Muslims but against injustice and partiality. For votes, the BJP is fully appeasing the minorities. Even the Congress had not acted in such a way,” he said.
Taking a dig at the BJP, he said, “This way, they will go on accepting all the demand towards denationalisation. If they are re-elected, they will say that they have been given the mandate and will be free to commit all the sins. We should not give them the licence to do so.”
During Corporation of the City of Panaji elections, the BJP’s manifesto promised to revive Fontainhas Festival, which was stopped by people.
“We have not sold our capital city of Panaji to the Portuguese. So we have to understand the agenda of such people. If they are re-elected, they will destroy our culture. So we have decided to support the BBSM, which has decided to use a political weapon to work against the BJP,” he said.
He however cautioned the swayamsevaks not to fall prey to the divide and rule policy which is being adopted to calm the agitation.
“Efforts are being made to divide the agitators who are involved in the agitation. We have to be alert not to let such things happen”, he said adding, “We are fully supporting BBSM. RSS gives full freedom for contributing towards the agitations which are in favour of the nation. Our support is unconditional. There is no single swayamsevak who agrees to BJP’s decision to continue grants to English medium primary schools,” said Velingkar.
The convention however unanimously resolved to accept the decision of Goa Pradesh to appoint Subhash Velingkar as its Chief.
