The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch on Sunday gave a call to the people of Goa, from the

historic Lohia Maidan, to teach the Bharatiya Janata Party a lesson in the coming election, even as

convenor Subhash Velingkar launched a blistering attack on the BJP leaders, including Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for their U-turn on the medium of Instruction issue and other burning issues.

In his fiery address at the Lohia Maidan, Velingkar told the gathering that the BJP-led government is

responsible for the huge debt for Goans and their sufferings. He said if the debt was in the region of Rs 4500 crore during the Congress rule, it has now touched a whopping Rs 16,000 crore.

Accusing the BJP leaders, including the Defense Minister and Chief Minister of betraying the people of Goa on the question of MoI and other contentious issues plaguing the people of Goa, Velingkar reminded the BJP leaders that Goa is not a foreign country and that the local culture and language will finally prevail. “The Congress had taken the decision to give grants to English medium primary schools. At that time, Parrikar and other BJP leaders had joined the agitation and sought our support, promising to stop grants after coming to power,” Velingkar said, adding that Parrikar made a U-turn on the issue by betraying the people after coming to power."

He also sought to expose the BJP’s “flop” Vijai Sankalp programmes underway across the State, saying the dwindling turnout at the rallies have made the BJJP leaders uncomfortable ahead of the coming election. “They had initially planned to mobilise around 10,000 people for the Vijai Sankalp rallies, but we have found out that the rallies are being attended only by 2000 people. This is just the beginning and the charisma of the government is on the wane,” he warned.

In his address, Uday Bhembre called upon the people of Goa to stop the BJP from coming back to power on the same lines how the government had stopped the currency notes in circulation and the

recruitment for government jobs.

Stating that the ongoing movement is not against any particular leader or individual, Bhembre said the movement is launched with the objective of protecting the local culture and language. “I do not think there’s any other movement in history which has survived for the last five years. The day is not too far when the movement will achieve success,” Bhembre said.
