Social activist Adv Pratima Coutinho on Monday charged the Fatorda Police with meting out harassment to the people who had participated in the agitation at Old Market, Margao, demanding the arrest of Subhash Velingkar.

Coutinho visited the Fatorda Police Station on Monday along with Ronaldo Roque Fernandes to enquire why the police had attached the two-wheeler and cell phone of Ronaldo, a resident of Benaulim.

“We had a protest at the Old Market and at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex to demand the arrest of Velingkar for hurting the sentiments of Goans with his remarks on St Francis Xavier. Rolando is being called to the police station on the alibi that he is required for investigations. The police went to his place in Benaulim and brought him to the police station,” she said.

She added: “Velingkar was booked with an FIR with a lone section, but an FIR has been registered against Ronaldo with various sections.”

Charging PSI Salil Gaonkar of the Fatorda Police Station for allegedly harassing and troubling Ronaldo by attaching his mobile and his Activa scooter, Pratima questioned why the police had to attach his mobile and vehicle.

“Did Rolando use his mobile or vehicle to commit any offence? Why is this PSI doing dadagiri by attaching the mobile phone and the vehicle of Ronaldo? The PSI has even assaulted Rolando. The PSI even had the audacity to say that Subhash Velingkar is a big RSS hero. What the PSI did is discrimination,” she added.
