MARGAO
Margao Municipal Council has been caught napping after migrant fish vendors again made their presence felt alongside the Wholesale Fish Market road on Monday.
As per the High Court's directions, the authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council, are mandated to keep the road free from vendors selling fish on the roadside.
When the MMC had turned the heat on the migrant fish vendors in the wake of directions from the High Court a couple of months ago, the fish vendors had all migrated to the Seraulim side of the Margao-Seraulim road to conduct their fishing business.
That the migrant fish vendors have again returned to the wholesale fish market road, right opposite the wholesale fish market, goes to show that the MMC has either stopped patrolling the road to drive away the vendors or the civic officials have turned a blind eye to the illegal activities.
The High Court had called for a slew of measures to put an end to the nuisance and traffic snarls on the wholesale fish market road, with specific directions to the MMC to clear the thermocol waste generated along the road, to drive away the vendors selling fish on the roadside, and directions to the SGPDA to keep the wholesale fish market clear and hygienic.
