Vendetta for taking on CM in Sankhali: Sanglani after FIR

CANACONA

Insisting that he would not be cowed down or intimidated by the FIR against him in Canacona, Congress candidate for Sankhali Dharmesh Sanglani accused the BJP and the state machinery of political vendetta since he was contesting against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in his constituency.

Sanglani, who runs a chain of bar and restaurant businesses in Canacona and is also a former chairperson of Sankhali Municipal Council (SMC), was on Thursday booked by Canacona police under Section 420 IPC in connection with a Rs 40 lakh land deal in 2016.

“I am re-contesting in Sankhali constituency and had lost the 2017 elections to Sawant by only 2,131 votes. This is a BJP ploy to silence me politically. It is nothing but political vendetta,” Sanglani told The Goan.

“Pravin Varik of Patnem-Canacona has filed false, fabricated and politically motivated complaint against me and it is surprising that this has surfaced after six years and that too, just after my candidature was declared by the Congress.”

“In 2019, I had filed a civil case for specific performance of agreement against the Varik family and they have filed a reply in this case.”

Saglani said Varik’s complaint is non-cognizable in nature, but an FIR had been registered within two days under political pressure.

“On December 7, 2021, I had filed a criminal complaint against the Varik family before same Canacona police station, stating that the Varik family had created a fabricated document by forging my signature, but no action has been yet taken.”

“On the other hand, the police acted and filed an FIR within two days of a bogus complaint by the Varik family.”

Incidentally, soon after Canacona Police filed an FIR against him, Sanglani on Thursday night filed an RTI application with Canacona police, seeking copies of action taken reports on his complaints dated November 6, 2021, and November 7, 2021, against Pravin Varik and Ghansham Varik for their frivolous complaints.
