The Shiv Sena on Friday announced its list of seven candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, but its Panaji candidate may be withdrawn in support of Utpal Parrikar, who decided to contest as an independent candidate on Friday evening.
At a news conference in Panaji, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said its candidates are Subhash Kerkar (Pernem), Jitesh Kamat (Mapusa), Vincent Pereira (Siolim), Govind Govenkar (Aldona), Shailendra Velingkar (Panaji), Gokuldas Gaonkar (Poriem) and Devidas Gaonkar (Valpoi).
Shailendra Velingkar may withdraw from Panaji as Raut had earlier stated that his party would withdraw its candidature from Panaji constituency if Utpal Parrikar were to contest as an independent candidate on condition that he does not align with the BJP later.
"His family has had a huge contribution in establishing the BJP in Goa. We will support him if he contests elections independently,” he added
Shiv Sena and NCP are contesting elections as alliance partners and the NCP has already declared its list of candidates.
