Residents of Mungul on late Sunday evening caught a tender coconut vendor who was disposing off coconut shells and waste in the jurisdiction of Seraulim Panchayat.
Demanding that the police and other authorities should initiate action against the vendor, the locals feared that the indiscriminate disposal of the coconut shells may result in vector borne diseases in the area.
Carmo Dourado, who has a kiosk at Mungul, pointed out that he had come across a mound of coconut waste in the locality, falling in the Seraulim panchayat jurisdiction. He caught the vendor red handed when he came to dispose off the waste on Sunday evening at 8 pm.
Heated exchanges ensued between Carmo and the vendor after he confronted the latter for dumping the waste in the area.
The vendor later sought two-days time to clear the waste. “I could not lift away the tender coconut waste from the from the area since I could not get a vehicle”, the vendor said, while assuring to lift the waste within two days.
Carmo pointed out that the tender coconut waste dumped in the area could give rise to vector borne diseases including malaria and dengue.
