The Verna Junction, often referred to as Titan junction, has turned chaotic with non-functional traffic signals at the busy intersection along the Verna highway.

According to locals, the traffic signals have not been functioning for over 10 days and the some minor accidents are being reported on a regular basis at the location.

Locals claim that the junction is slowly becoming a death trap of sorts as many heavy vehicles including trucks and buses move in the area.

They have also claimed that the traffic signal at the junction is crucial as hundreds of employees working in the Verna Industrial estate move around in the area on bikes and walking dangerously to cross over to the other side of the road to avail of public transport.

An employee, Rajesh Singh, employed at an industrial unit in Verna said chaotic moments have been witnessed at the junction especially during peak hours.

“This junction is a busy intersection and one road from Verna Industrial estate connects to the highway at this point. While the highway is always full of speeding vehicles, there is also a mad rush of heavy vehicles and bikes trying to enter and exit from the Verna industrial estate,” said Singh.

“To make matters worse, there is no traffic police deployed despite traffic signals not working for several days. A friend recently missed being knocked by a speeding truck. Authorities must do something before it is too late and we have a fatal accident,” said Singh.

When contacted, a source at the Verna police station informed that the traffic signals had turned non-functional after an accident was reported where in a vehicle had knocked the traffic signal pole.

“We are present most of the times, especially during peak hours, at the location. As per my knowledge, information of this non-functional traffic signal has been passed to authorities concerned. The traffic signals are also planned to be replaced and works are underway. Very soon, the traffic signals will be restored,” said the official.
