130 employees of Verna Based company stopped work over job uncertainty alleging that their company is conducting interviews in Kolhapur to deprive locals of jobs.
The workers said that the company had signed a bond with them for a period of three years when the company was set up with a clause that the employees would be served a three months notice in case they had to be terminated and also verbally assured that they would be fixed once the contract period was over.
The employees said that while they had worked tirelessly and selflessly for the prosperity of the company, the management had failed to either fix their jobs nor update them about the next course of action and while some staff of the management were given promotion and huge incentives, these employees were neither given increment nor given job security.
The employees also alleged that the company had already carried out interviews in neighbouring states and had plans to absorb people from other states while rendering the Goan employees jobless.
" We are working on minimum wages and we are working despite major accidents and other harassment meted out to us. We have never even asked for a raise in salary nor ever confronted the company or its management. We have only requested the company that we need to be fixed in the company and we are willing to work without a raise in the salary. We only need job confirmation and request the management not to drive us out abruptly after giving everything for the company since it's inception," said a employee.
"The Government is having job fairs and the CM Dr Pramod Sawant is himself promoting the private sector while encouraging the youth to join the private sector jobs but here this company is hiring people from other States and trying to deprive Goans of their jobs. We have no demand except for job confirmation and we don't even want a raise in salary and we have nowhere to go all of a sudden if this company terminates our services. We have a lot of overheads and we also have a future and despite all the efforts that we put in the company, we are being disregarded and we want the CM Dr Pramod Sawant and the Goa Government to intervene so that our job security is safeguarded, " said the workers.
