The Principal of Vidhyaprabhodini Higher Secondary School, Damodar Mardolkar, has stated that the allegations made against the teachers in the memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar by 25 parents of the school students are “baseless.”

“It has been done to malign the image of the institution and its secretary Subhash Velingkar,” said Mardolkar while addressing a news conference organized by teachers of Vidhyaprabhodhini at Porvorim.

Mardolkar further said Velingkar does not interfere in the day-to-day functioning of the institution and offers a free hand to the principal and the headmaster and the teachers to discharge their respective duties.

“The Vidhyaprobhodini Educational Institution is in existence for the last 29 years and the number of students on its roll is 2,500. This institution is famous in Goa and its results are also good. The parents and teachers have got full faith in the school management and its secretary Subhash Velingkar,” said Mardolkar.

L D Samant Memorial High School headmaster Mhalsakant Deshpande said out of the 2,500 students, only 25 parents have signed the memorandum that was submitted to the chief minister, which works out to only 1 per cent.

“Out of these 25 parents, 10 are from five families. The allegations made in the memorandum that Velingkar is abusing his powers and using teachers and non-teaching staff for his political purpose is totally false. There is no element of truth in all these allegations,” said Deshpande.

Teachers Shephali Nagvekar, Kamaxi Pai and Madhvi Sidhaye said they are working in Vidhyaprabhodini institution for over 20 years and there has been no harassment of lady teachers on the part of its secretary.

The teachers said on the contrary, they have received good guidance from Velingkar from time to time while discharging their duties. The environment is very congenial especially for lady teachers and they are working fearlessly.
