Vigil on scrapyards to curb property offences

PANAJI
Goa police on Saturday said the North district team has verified 105 scrapyard owners and 221 scrap collectors within its jurisdiction.

Stating it is a proactive measure to curb property-related crimes and ensure public safety, Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta said the verification drive was undertaken after previous case investigations pointed to involvement or connivance of scrapyard owners and kabadiwalas in several property offences.

These establishments were found to be used for the disposal of stolen materials, making them potential enablers of criminal activity.

Police also noted that several scrapyards attract a large population of migrant workers, and appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or by calling the emergency helpline number 112.
