MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council has finally given the permission for Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai to hold a janata darbar in the Municipal hall on July 4, averting a confrontation between the regional party and the ruling dispensation.
Goa Forward vice-president Dilip Prabhudesai later told the media that the decision by the Margao Municipal Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar to grant permission for party chief Vijai Sardesai to hold the darbar on Thursday morning is a victory for democracy over dictatorship.
He said the meeting was called by Sardesai to facilitate the people of Margao in particular and Salcete in general to list out their grievances so that the same are taken up in the forthcoming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly. “There was an attempt to scuttle the janata darbar in the Margao Municipal hall. In the past, the MMC had denied permission for the GBA to hold a meeting at the Lohia Maidan under some pretext.”
