Speaking in his capacity as the chief guest on the occasion of the felicitation function of Tiatr artists held during celebrations of 125th anniversary of Tiatr organised by 125th Aniversary of Tiatr Celebration Committee, Tiatr Academy of Goa and the Directorate of Art & Culture, Sardesai said this is necessary as Tiatr has remained confined only to a captive audience.
At the same time, the TCP Minister strongly opposed any censorship of Tiatr while making an earnest plea to tiatrists not to showcase only negative aspects when highlighting social issues  through the medium of Tiatr.
Sardesai termed Tiatr to be a medium to safeguard tradition and culture of the State, whose 125th anniversary celebrations, he said, have been supported by the government. He also complimented youth talent in Tiatr. “Tiatr depicts the true culture of the State. However, in view of the rapid modernisation, it needs to be given support. This can be done by including Tiatr in the tourism circuit for increasing the viewership net of Tiatr which is currently restricted to a captive audience,” Sardesai told the audience of tiatrists.
Speaking about social issues portrayed by Tiatr, Sardesai said, “Social issues are highlighted by tiatrists. But sometimes they cross their boundaries. However, I am not in favour of imposing censorship on Tiatr,” he remarked.
Turning the spotlight on politics, the TCP Minister claimed that some political decisions may appear unpopular. But they are in the interest of Niz Goenkars.
