MARGAO
Is this drain in the busy new market area no longer on the agenda of the Margao Municipal Council?
This question has come to the fore with the Margao Municipal Council now laying stress on utilizing funds on the city beautification rather on gutters and drains,
The Margao Municipal body has witnessed changed in political guards as well as administrative heads, but a solution has eluded this important drain, which doubles up as a storm water drain and a footpath for the shoppers visiting the mega market area.
Questions are now being raised whether the drain, which has collapsed months ago, is now no longer on the agenda of the civic body. For, the new dispensation has been laying stress on the city beautification instead of utilizing the development funds on drains and gutters.
A market trader did not dispute the beautification concept stressed by the ruling civic body, saying beautification of the city has been a far cry for long.
He, however, hastened to add that the civic body should not neglect the drain as it helps the pedestrians and shoppers to walk to the market.
He added: “If the Margao Municipal Council does not repair the drain, which agency will do the work. It is high time the drain is repaired at the earliest before an accident takes place at the spot”.
Citizens further pointed out that the Margao city will play host to the famous Dindi festival on Sunday, hoping the Margao Municipality takes cognizance of the ground reality and take up the repair work.
