The ongoing Goyant Kollso Naka yatra wends its way in the villages of Majorda, Utorda and Calata with locals participating in an impressive motorcycle rally in the village on Tuesday.
The Yatris led by activist Abhijit Prabhudesai submitted a reminder to Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa at his office after the yatra, reminding him of the memorandums served on him earlier, demanding to scrap the double-tracking and other projects.
Impressed by the turn out of the Majorda-Calata-Utorda rally, Abhijit said that the local participation showed that people across Goa are totally opposed to the double-tracking and coal transportation projects.
He said the yatris also submitted a memorandum to the local panchayat body with a plea to adopt resolutions at their meeting opposing the double-tracking and coal transportation projects.
Abhijit told the people that the Goyant Kollso Naka is a movement launched by the common men who are conscious of their health as well as the environment.
“In the past, we had served memorandums on the Nuvem MLA. Since Wilfred is representing the people of Majorda-Calata-Utorda, we have submitted to him a reminder on the need to scrap the double-tracking and coal transportation projects”, he said, while making a plea to the Nuvem MLA to stand by the people to stop coal and save Goa.
“Since this is a movement of the common men, we are confident that the people of Goa will rise and come together to stop coal and double-tracking. Together, the people of Goa will oppose the double-tracking and coal transportation projects”, he added.
Meanwhile, outgoing Zilla Panchayat Member, Nelly Rodrigues, who hails from Majorda, has appealed to the government to see reason and scrap the projects. “We should all support the movement against double-tracking and coal transportation. Health is wealth. Coal transportation will affect the health as well as the tourism, which is the backbone of our economy”, she said.
