As the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise got under way in Salcete taluka “ playing host to a large NRI population, including seafarers, South Goa district Electoral officer, Egna Cleetus, IAS has said that existing voters, who are presently abroad, can either submit the enumeration forms online or the relatives can fill up the forms.

Launching the SIR exercise on Tuesday, the district electoral officer (DEO), who is also the South Goa district Collector, sought to allay apprehensions that those who are presently abroad will be left out of the SIR exercise. “The Booth Level Officers will be going house to house as part of the SIR exercise. There may be occasions when the voters may not be found at his place of residence during the visit. In such circumstances, instructions have been issued to the BLOs that they should visit the houses at least three times”, she said.

She added: “In the case of voters who are out of station or abroad, they can fill up the enumeration forms via online or the relatives can fill up the forms. The enumeration exercise will be carried out for one month, which will be followed by the publication of the draft roll”.

Saying the SIR exercise is nothing but an exercise to purify the electoral roll, the district Collector has said the exercise has begun on Tuesday with BLOs moving house to house with the enumeration forms.  “The BLOs will distribute the pre-filled up form wherein the voters are supposed to fill up the forms, including additional information such as date of birth of the voters, contact number.  The entire exercise may not take even five minutes”, the Collector said, while asserting that there is no requirement to submit any documents.

Saying the entire exercise is being conducted to purify the voters roll to ensure that an ineligible voter is not included in the roll. “Every year, the election authorities are conducting the exercise of addition and deletion of names of voters. In this SIR exercise, a comprehensive exercise will be conducted by the BLOS by visiting every household to purify the roll”, she added.
