As many as 74,763 undergraduate students and 329 Ph.D. scholars will receive their degrees at the 26th Annual Convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), to be held at Jnana Sangama on September 26 at 11 am.
Announcing the details at a press conference on Wednesday, VTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar said Karnataka Governor and Chancellor of State Universities Thawar Chand Gehlot will preside over the convocation. Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwara will be the chief guest, while Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy will also attend.
Of the graduating students, 74,009 are from B.E./B.Tech, 725 from B.Arch, 12 from B.Planning and 17 from B.Sc programmes. VTU will confer Honorary Doctorates on Dr Sabitha Ramamurthy, Dr M.P. Shyam and Prof T.G. Sitharam for their contributions to education.
The convocation will also feature 94 Gold Medals for 45 students. H.M. Vishwanath of Jain Institute of Technology, Davangere, tops the medal tally with 12, followed by Sakshi S. Hadalge of VSM Somashekar R. Kothiwale Technical College, Nipani, with eight. Bengaluru Institute of Technology leads the college-wise rank tally with 29 ranks, followed by Bapuji Institute of Engineering & Technology (16) and RNS Institute of Technology (13).
