A police watch point donated to the Colva police by local businessman on Monday evening will be stationed at any point along Salcete’s beach belt with permission of the local authorities.
Blessed by Fr Peter Fernandes, the watch point, which was initially supposed to be inaugurated at the Zalor beach, was handed over to the Colva police station in-charge PI Filomena D’Costa by the businessman Ashley Dias on Monday evening.
PI Costa told the media that the watch point will be stationed at any of the points along the Mobor-Majorda stretch of Salcete beach coming in the jurisdiction of Colva police station after obtaining permission. “The watch point was supposed to be inaugurated at the Zalor beach, but there was some technical issue and hence Ashley decided to donate the structure to the Colva police and to station the same at any point along the beach stretch,” PI Costa added. Ashley said he has donated the watch point as part of social responsibility and to help the police maintain vigil. “There’s no controversy over the shifting of the watch point. I had obtained permission from the Varca panchayat since my guest house
falls in that panchayat,” Ashley added.
Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge informed that he had told Ashley to remove the watch point from the road at Zalor beach since there was no permission obtained from the Carmona panchayat. “There may be a dispute over Zalor beach, but the Carmona panchayat has laid its claim over Zalor beach from day one and any activity should get the prior permission from the village panchayat,” the Carmona Sarpanch said.
