Water in mining pits to be processed
and used for drinking, agriculture

This was informed by Piyush Goyal, who is minister of state with independent charge for power, coal, new & renewable energy and mines. Goyal made this statement while replying to a question asked by media-persons during the launch of mining surveillance system.
Goyal said, “As many as 10 crore people in India can benefit due to such an initiative.”
Large parts of India are water deficient, where people don’t have adequate water to drink or to use in agriculture especially in peak summer and sometimes even during other parts of the year. People living in such parts will really benefit if this move is implemented across the country, Goyal said.
Earlier, this year, Goyal had also made it mandatory for companies in coal mining to process water used during coal-washing and make it available to locals for drinking and agriculture. It seems that ministry of mines is on its way to make the same rule applicable for all types of mining in the country.
